Description
This is what a privacy box could offer:
User perspective:
- Make technology approachable with human senses (tangible, visible, probably also audible). Example: Freedombox LEDs visualizing specific kinds of interaction.
- Simple metaphor: My box, my digital data, identity, money.
- Generate Internet money by providing resources (Storage, Computation, Transfer)
Tech perspective:
- Always-on and pretty secure node representing a human
- Backbone for Dapps
- Infrastructure for resilient Mesh networks
Investor perspective:
- Selling Hardware is a known business case
- Enabler of new business models (e.g. ZKP based services)
- Good marketing vehicle

Applications:
- Backups of all kinds (most importantly: Cloud alternative). Difference to NAS: automatic redundancy and distribution (not lost if house burns down).
- Identity. E.g. hosting of key shares (own and peer's) for recovery.
- Personal data. Can hold e.g. all kinds of history, medical records, one day the genome etc. Selective disclosure to 3rd party, e.g. via ZKP.
- Real digital social network (instead of emulation via 3rd party) - representing a web of trust.
- Personal bank: secure own and friend's assets.
Especially sensitive data may be additionally hardware protected, e.g. by making it available only via interaction with an USB dongle (e.g. Ledger).
Idea: what about designating it social box?
The functionality may be broken down into 2 pieces:
- Personal + those close to me (social)
- Public (commons)
Should be technically reflected by having max. separation (ideally: Hardware) between them.
Public: Provide resources to Dapps, be an economic agent.
